Longarm Rental Training
Class Length: 2.5 hours
Class Cost: $70
Are Materials Included? YES! Materials are provided by Hoop & Bee for this class.
Class Description: If you’re ready to transition from quilting on your domestic machine to free motion quilting on our Handiquilter Avante 18, this private one-on-one training session will give you all the skills you need to complete your quilt on a longarm machine. This session is 2hrs of guided step-by-step instruction, followed by a half hour of unstructured doodle time for hands-on stitching practice.
We will go over how to prepare and load your quilt onto the frame, how to thread the machine, managing thread tension, basic troubleshooting, and get started stitching with basting stitches, blocks, motifs, and/or edge-to-edge designs. All materials will be provided. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a notebook and pencil.
Upon successful completion of the workshop, students will be eligible to rent studio time on the Avante 18 longarm to work independently. This class is your only prerequisite.
Following training, you may rent the longarm for $20/hr, with a minimum booking of 2 hours, then rated based on every 15m after that. (ex: 1.75hrs is $40, but 2.75hrs is $55.) Special discounts are available for longarm rental during a scheduled Open Sew. The size of your quilt and the density of your quilting pattern will determine how long it will take to complete your project, but crib quilts should plan approximately 2-3hrs, throw quilts 3-4hrs, and twin and larger should expect 4-8hrs. The maximum width of a quilt that will comfortably fit on this frame is 98-102” wide. Multiple days can be booked.
This training can only be booked via email and not via our appointment calendar, to ensure all the necessary preparation, time, and attention is able to be fully provided. Please email or send us a note with your availability or when you would like to book, and we’ll work out the scheduling details!
NOTE: To ensure enough rental time is available for each sewist, we may limit the amount of trainings per month, so please do not plan your first quilt with a tight deadline.
