Pricing
Quilting pricing is both completely straight-forward and uniquely complex. We offer a free 30m design consultation to all our customers when you drop off your quilt top, or a Zoom or email consultation when you mail in your quilt. By discussing the quilt's purpose, durability issues, and other factors, we can help recommend the best quilting style and density for each project.
We charge a minimum loading fee of $50 for each project, regardless of the quilt's size. Thread* is included in the cost. (*additional fee for metallic thread)
We also require a deposit prior to any work beginning; longarm projects have a $50 deposit, custom or keepsake quilts have a $100 deposit.
Mail-in quilts will require an additional return shipping charge, subject to the USPS costs. The most cost effective option possible will always be used. We can also purchase additional insurance at your request.
The following is a quick overview designed to help you get a sense for how our pricing works; all quilting projects will be quoted per project.
For further details of our pricing for each of our services, feel free to reach out to us to discuss your project directly.

Our longarm pricing is based on a straightforward "square inch" system, which is determined by multiplying the quilt's length by its width.
We offer different pricing options for low density, medium density, and high density stitching. Density refers to how many stitches per square inch; the higher the density, the more stitches are in each square inch.
Edge-to-Edge (E2E) computerized quilting:
Low density: $0.025 per square inch
Medium density: $0.030 per square inch
High density: $0.036 per square inch
Semi-Custom computerized quilting (ex: E2E with a border):
Low density: $0.041 per square inch
Medium density: $0.046 per square inch

Like computerized quilting, our pricing for custom “freemotion” or hand-guided quilting, is based on a straightforward "square inch" system, which is determined by multiplying the quilt's length by its width.
Custom quilting ranges from $0.045-.065 per square inch for edge-to-edge hand guided designs, increasing with complexity.
All are quoted per project.

Art is a human right. It is our self expression, our collective expression, embodies our wishes and narratives and desires, and engages our emotional, spiritual, and political imaginations. It strengthens our communities. Hoop & Bee annually offers a limited number of discounted rates to protest quilts made by marginalized people and to those for whom cost is a barrier, with priority given to Pioneer Valley-based creators.
