Beginners Quilt Along: Chain Links
Class Length: 7 classes, 3hrs/ea
Class Cost: $195
Are Materials Included? No. A material list will be provided or full kits are available for purchase from Hoop & Bee
Class Description: Never made a quilt before and not sure where to start? Have you only made small projects and you’re nervous to go bigger on your own? For this series we will make a 42”x54” throw size Chain Link Quilt, going through every step of making a quilt from beginning to end. We will meet every Sunday, 2pm-5pm, from March 2nd through April 13th.
During this seven week class, you will use our studio equipment to learn to press and accurately cut fabrics using rotary cutters and acrylic rulers, how to read a quilt pattern, how to sew a consistent quarter inch seam, how to thread or pin baste your completed top, batting, and backing for quilting, and how to bind and finish a quilt. While we will be making a project, the goal is to build your foundational skills!
A full syllabus and materials list will be emailed to you ahead of the class. Students may bring fabric or purchase a discounted kit from Hoop & Bee that includes a coordinated assortment of colored fabrics, background, and binding, and batting. Kits may be purchased as part of the registration process and will be waiting for you on the first day of class, or may be purchased at the door on the first day of class. (We usually prepare 10-12 unique kits of different styles and aesthetics, so you will have a wide variety of choices)
No homework will be expected and we should have time to complete all tasks within the class schedule, but students will have free access to any Open Sew if they require or would feel safer and more comfortable to have additional time.
This class will run with 2+ participants.
PLEASE NOTE: While no experience is necessary, if you have never used a sewing machine before and are feeling nervous or stressed about using one for the first time, please consider taking our Sewing Machine Confidence Builder prior to this class, or get in touch for a private one-on-one lesson.
