Spring Cleaning: Sewing Machine Maintenance
Class Length: 2 hours
Class Cost: $36
Are Materials Included? Please bring your own machine, cords, accessories, and manual - cleaning tools will be provided.
Class Description: Does your sewing machine feel more like a mystery box full of lint than your creative partner? Is it your trusty sidekick, but you're not quite sure how you should keep it running smoothly? Whether you’re a beginner wanting to learn the basics of machine care on your new machine or an experienced sewist looking to level up your at-home maintenance skills, this class will teach you the basic key steps to help keep your machine in great shape.
In this hands-on workshop, we’ll cover everything you need to know about the basics of cleaning and maintaining your sewing machine, including cleaning, lint removal, oiling, tension adjustments, and other preventative care tips. While this workshop will not replace bringing your machine to a shop for servicing periodically, you'll learn how to extend its life and what regular upkeep can prevent bigger, costlier repairs later on.
This is a BYOM (Bring Your Own Machine) class, so please include what machine you will be bringing in the Notes section of the registration process. We will have the necessary small tools and cleaning supplies.
This class will run with 2+ participants.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a maintenance-only class for working, modern, domestic sewing machines (typically plastic-bodied). If your machine is currently broken or malfunctioning, we won't be able to fix it during this session. Additionally, if you own a vintage cast iron or metal-bodied machine, this class is not designed for those models—but I’m happy to refer you to a vintage machine specialist. Please reach out for recommendations.
For new machines, please be aware of your model’s warranty, and review your contract or contact your dealer with questions. Removing covers for cleaning or servicing could void your warranty.
